We’ll be jumping on several of the dates of the upcoming Soilwork tour in January/February. Details below in the press release from Candlelight:

Philadelphia: Daylight Dies will join Soilwork and Darkane for the start of their upcoming US tour beginning January 30 in Rochester, New York. Continuing to support their latest record, Lost to the Living, Daylight Dies were selected to replace Warbringer who are unable to start the tour due to extended recording obligations. “We are all ecstatic about the opportunity to tour with three bands we are huge fans of,” says bassist Egan O’Rourke. “We have been cranking Soilwork in the van since our first tour so it will be a true honor to get to share stages with them.”

Released June 24, Lost to the Living is the North Carolina-based band’s second album for Candlelight Records. Mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia) and featuring artwork from Travis Smith (Amon Amarth, Paradise Lost), the album features nine new songs. “We were extremely pleased to see the glowing response to Lost to the Living from the media,” notes drummer Jesse Haff. “It’s especially rewarding to see the continued love from fans towards this album.”

Formed in 1996, Daylight Dies released their debut, No Reply (Relapse) in 2002. Terrorizer Magazine called the album “memorable and engaging.” Outburn Magazine proclaimed it “pristine doom metal,” while Digital Metal found it to be “a combination of dark melody and deathly aggression.” The quintet would tour Europe with Katatonia and perform with Lacuna Coil throughout the US and Canada before writing processes would begin on new material. Their second album, the impressive Dismantling Devotion, was released in March of 2006. Revolver Magazine called it “an epic slab of gloom metal that’s equal parts apocalyptic rage and suicidal sorrow.” Terrorizer Magazine again applauded the band noting the album as “an epic journey as thoughtful and compellingly musical as it is bleak and vengeful… essential.” Another US tour, this time with Moonspell and friends Katatonia, completed 2006 on an all-time high. Outside of a few local performances the five-piece spent much of 2007 crafting the material that finds itself on Lost for the Living. The band toured with Candlemass just prior to the release of Lost for the Living.

Daylight Dies, featuring vocalist Nathan Ellis, guitarist Barre Gambling, guitarist Charley Shackelford, with O’Rourke and Haff, have consistently impressed fans and critics alike. Not only popular with mainstream print outlets worldwide (Lost to the Living again receiving high praise from the most important metal publications around the globe), the band have found an active online support network. Popular metal portal Metalsucks.net says, “with Lost to the Living we get what could very well become the band’s masterwork.” Hardcore Sounds says, “Daylight Dies has created a solid piece of metal that is unbelievably solid from start to finish.” The band have active fan pages via MySpace, Facebook, are growing in popularity via LastFm.com and many more.

It’s been a ridiculously long time in coming — 4 months after the release of the album to be exact — but our latest album Lost to the Living is now available as a digital download from iTunes and Amazon. So please go download a copy if you’re one of the many who’ve emailed us asking when it would be available. Of course we still have the CD with all the lyrics and artwork from Travis Smith available in our merchandise section for a bargin price as well.

Indianapolis Metalfest Cancellation · September 29th, 2008

After rehearsing for a couple weeks in prepartion, driving a day and a half and within miles of Indianapolis, we received a voice mail from the promoter telling us day two of the festival had been canceled. We’re disappointed not only at the waste of time and money, but the fact we weren’t able to perform for everyone who planned on coming out.

Details are still unclear as to exactly what happened, but the promoter issued this statement:

Due to issues entirely beyond our control, the Saturday show [September 27] at 5100 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis has been cancelled. More details will be available on our website soon.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Make-up dates are being considered, and we are certain to file legal action against the parties responsible for this situation … A major announcement and statement will be made concerning this issue in a day or so.

We hope a future tour will be routed nearby to make up for this, but nothing is scheduled as of now.

We have received word we’ll be playing on Saturday, September 27th at the Indianapolis Metalfest. This is currently our only confirmed future gig and the first since the Lost to the Living CD release party. We’re looking forward to this special one off performance along with the 60+ bands on the schedule and hope many of you can make it out.

Last weekend we gathered in the afternoon at a local bar to sit down and film a quick question and answer session. The questions were fielded from Metal Maniacs and ranged from future European tour possibilities to our intensive demoing process. The five minute video below is the result. A web-HD version is available here and it is also available on YouTube.

As you can see, we now have our Lost to the Living website online. We’re still adding content and fixing various things, but take a look around and enjoy. This news section is now a blog, so you can subscribe via RSS, or leave comments on updates.

Reviews for Lost the Living continue to pour in. We’ve posted most of those we’ve gotten our hands on in the press section. Some of our favorite quotes so far:

“a bid for a seat in the pantheon of the giants of melodic, gothic death doom” – Terrorizer
“An emotionally draining tour-de-force that commands unchallenged attention” – MetalReview.com
“Masterful” – Revolver
“A career masterwork” – MetalSucks.net
“A stunning example of bleakness and beauty combined” – Teeth of the Divine
“One of the most sophisticated singular doom purveyors west of the Thames” – Pre-Fix

The album has also gotten a 4 out of 5 in Kerrang!, 8 out of 10 in Metal Hammer, 8 out of 10 in Decibel, 5 out of 6 in Zero Tolerance, 8 out of 10 in Terrorizer, and 86 out of 100 in Aardschok to name a couple. We’re selling the album directly, for the super cheap price of $13 SHIPPED ($15 outside of the U.S.). Order it here.

Metal Maniacs asked us a bunch of questions which we’re going to answer in front of a camera later today. We hope to have that edited together within a week or two and have it online. We also have features coming up in Aardschok, Metal Hammer, Decibel and various other magazines, so keep your eye out for those.

European release delayed · July 5th, 2008

The European release of Lost to the Living has been delayed due to “unforseen difficulties” in printing. The new release date is July 14th. Please note this does NOT impact any order made from daylightdies.com. All orders from this web site are shipping immediately. The album will be available digitally starting tomorrow on iTunes.

Press release from Candlelight:

Due to unforeseen difficulties with the printing of the new Daylight Dies album ‘Lost To The Living’, Candlelight Records have regretfully had to postpone its UK & European release date until 14th July 2008. This difficult decision has been taken in order to ensure that the band’s vision for their stunning new album is preserved, and to make sure it looks as good as it sounds!’Lost To The Living’ features captivatingly dark original artwork from renowned artist Travis Smith, who has worked with the band before and whose other previous collaborations include Opeth, Anathema & Katatonia!

With their new album, Daylight Dies have put forth the most mature and varied release of their career. The lush textures which were introduced with the previous album continue and are greatly expanded upon. Acoustic and clean guitars ride alongside heavy rhythms more prevalently than previously, creating a multi-layered sound saturated in atmosphere and depth. ‘Lost to the Living’ is a mix of beautiful melancholic leads and harsh dissonant rhythms; despair driven hooks and the overall dark atmosphere you’ve come to expect.

The release date for ‘Lost To The Living’ through sites such as itunes remains unaffected, and the album will be available for download from 30th June 2008.
