Interview with Blistering.com on the upcoming album · January 13th, 2012
|
David E. Gehlke from Blistering.com recently interviewed us about the upcoming album:
“We are finishing out a few solos, cleans, keys and bass, and are polishing lyrics and vocals before we start tracking those. This is the craziest time in tracking because four guys are working on ten different things to really make the album come together. It’s a cool period because things really come together, but it’s very busy.”
And so begins Daylight Dies bassist Egan O’Rouke when describing progress on the band’s forthcoming fourth studio album, due sometime in the middle of 2012 via Candlelight Records. Once the rightful North American torchbearers to the early Katatonia/Anathema sound, Daylight Dies have evolved into one of metal’s most despondent and captivtating entities. If indications are true, the follow-up to 2008’s stellar Lost to the Living promises to be just as foreboding, and possibly more varied thanks to the increased involvement from O’Rouke, who assumed writing duties with guitarist Barre Gambling.
Another year passes away · December 31st, 2011

2011 has been a year of writing new music, recording in the studio and having an incredible time performing in Italy, Portugal and Spain. On the new album front, we’ve now completed guitar leads, rhythms, drums and bass guitar and clean guitar are halfway done. We’ll wrap everything up in early 2012 and hopefully have a clearer idea for a release date then. Our goal is the first half of 2012. We are thrilled with how everything is sounding so far.
We performed three shows in Europe in December. We want to thank Jose and Adrian for all the hard work of making it happen, and all the fantastic audiences. We had an amazing time.
Here’s a few photos from the Bracara Extreme Festival in Braga, Portugal:

Daylight Dies invades Europe · November 29th, 2011

We’ll be back in Europe next week for the first time since 2003. While this isn’t a full-fledged tour, we’re proud to be part of two festivals with stunning line-ups, and one headline gig.
December 8 – Zoe Club, headline gig with guests Forgotten Tomb (Milan, Italy).
December 9 – Bracara Extreme Festival, with Enslaved, Mar de Grises and more (Braga, Portugal)
December 10 – Madrid is the Dark III, with Katatonia, October Tide, and more (Madrid, Spain)
Rehearsals for these shows began tonight in North Carolina. Those attending can expect numerous songs from Lost to the Living, Dismantling Devotion and No Reply. We are proud to be part of such fantastic shows as these are certainly not to be missed.
See you soon.

Barre is currently deep in recording numerous layers of rhythm guitar for our new album, but we put together this short video with a couple clips of our progress from the past several weeks. Check it out:

Idle EP available as digital download with bonus track · October 26th, 2011
|

Our 2000 debut EP Idle has been out of print for nearly 10 years, but it’s just been digitally released by Divebomb Records, and it includes the “In the Silence” demo as a bonus track.
You can grab a copy on the cheap from either iTunes or Amazon now.
Thanks for your support.
Here’s what Divebomb Records had to say:
We originally signed DAYLIGHT DIES in 2000 and immediately caused quite a stir within Tribunal Records’ fledging and predominantly metalcore fan base. DAYLIGHT DIES were the first true metal band on our roster and we couldn’t have been happier to welcome them aboard all those years ago. Now 11 years later, DAYLIGHT DIES has achieved worldwide success and released numerous critically acclaimed albums via Relapse Records and Candlelight Records. They have toured with Katatonia, Moonspell, Lacuna Coil and were main support for Emperor during two capacity crowd reunion shows in New York City. They have come a long way since the initial release of Idle in 2000 and we couldn’t be more proud of them.
Idle has been out of print for nearly 10 years and unavailable digitally. So we here at Divebomb are excited to present a newly remastered digital special edition of the EP with special bonus track available via all our normal digital re-sellers.
Studio update: Drums are done · October 21st, 2011

We entered SoundPure studios to begin recording our fourth album on Saturday, and Jesse finished up all drums by Tuesday. Barre also knocked out several acoustic guitar segments. Everything is sounding solid and spirits are high as all the material we’ve worked hard on the past couple of years is finally recorded.
Up next: Layers upon layers of guitars construct the wall of sound. More photos and details as they emerge.

Entering the studio in mid-October · August 19th, 2011

We’re approaching the end of the writing process on the fourth Daylight Dies album, and are scheduled to begin tracking drums in mid-October. We have completed 9 songs, but we’re not yet certain if all will make it onto the album. As previously stated, the material is the most varied yet, partly due to Egan making significant song writing contributions.
We’ll announce a release date or estimated time frame once we’re further into the recording and those details become more clear.
Additionally, there will be a couple more European gigs surrounding Madrid is the Dark in December, and we’ll share those details as soon as they are confirmed.
It’s true: Madrid is the Dark confirmed · July 28th, 2011

We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be performing at the Madrid is the Dark III festival in Madrid, Spain on Saturday, December 20, 2011. The lineup this year is spectacular, as we’ll be sharing the stage with friends Katatonia and October Tide, as well as Enslaved, Ghost Brigade, Skepticism, Isole and more.
We’ll also be announcing a couple gigs just prior to Madrid is the Dark in other European countries as soon as details are confirmed. Please check back soon for updates.
To say we’re excited about returning to Europe after so many years is an understatement. It’s been far, far too long.
Progress on the new album continues as well, and we will have some solid information to report in that area before too long.
